And we’re off. The salmon season has officially opened in the Forth. To mark the opening of the salmon season we are announcing the winner of the 2017 largest salmon caught competition.
We are pleased to announce that the largest fish caught was done so by Colin Wighton on the Moray Estate beat near Doune on the 24th March 2017. Colin had the pleasure of catching this fish on the fly, one of which he designed and tied himself. The fish was estimated to be 32lbs and had a length of 110cm with the catch being witnessed by John Scott and photographed before being released back into the river. Colin’s prize is that he has won a days guided fishing on the Tay during the 2018 season which I am sure will be a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
We would like to thank everyone who has participated in the competition during 2017. To keep the ball rolling, we are re-running the competition in 2018 and encourage anyone fishing in the Forth to submit their big catches.
Catches can be reported by the following methods preferably with a picture of the fish if possible
The report should include:
Date and time caught,
River (and beat if appropriate),
Your name and contact details
Again, the person who catches the largest fish will receive a mystery prize which will be announced once the season finishes.
Good luck and tight lines,
Forth District Salmon Fishery Board
